Advising a client on an acquisition is multifaceted.  It begins with getting to know YOU, the collector.  There's enough great art out there that no two collections need be the same.  Being an effective art adviser means going beyond the credo of 'I wouldn't put you into anything I wouldn't get into myself'...  it's about knowing your client, understanding where their comfort zone is and how to affectionately help them out of it.  Only by exploring the unknown can you see where you were and understand where you want to be.

Once the consultation takes place and there is trust between client and adviser, I begin crafting tailored presentations of exciting artists for you to know and consider.  Patience is a virtue as it can sometimes take months for a new collector to be educated enough to make a decision.  Upon zeroing in on a few artists of interest, I go to the business of finding out what works are available and which are worth going after.  Most artists can create 10 works before something of merit comes along, and while they're all important to the artist's process, it's my job to understand and explain the difference.

It takes a certain level of market fluency to know the value of a work of art.  By avidly attending gallery openings, studio visits, art fairs and auctions, I have my finger on the pulse of the global market.  I can effectively advise on what you should pay for a particular work.  Whether you're buying from the primary market of an emerging artist, a work from a private collection,  or at auction from an artist long since passed, there are numerous elements to consider...  Medium, color, composition, condition, structure, performance provenance and authenticity to name a few.  All play a role in evaluating a work of art.

This is especially true when buying limited edition works on paper, photographs and/or sculpture.  It's a common misconception that multiples are akin to reproductions.  For many artists printmaking is a completely separate form of self expression, done with the collaboration of experienced artisans as a means of creating more approachable works for collectors.  This has become so popular that it's created it's own market and an entirely different range of challenges, and opportunities.  Being versed in all of these facets of Art collecting allows me to better assist you.

Whether we're starting from scratch and building a new collection, or looking for select works to add to an existing collection, I can effectively educate and guide you through the twists and turns of the Art world.  Along the way, we will arrive at works that not only speak to YOU, but have all the elements necessary to instill confidence in the longstanding value of your purchase.
